ONCE UPON A TIME ©Ron Burres
Once upon a time, in the kingdom of Tualatin, lived a king and queen with two little princesses.
One princess’ name was Karlin, and the other they called Boo.
Now Karlin was five and Boo only two.
Because Karlin was the older the king and queen sometimes forgot she still liked to have someone to hold her more often than not. Princess Karlin was special you see, she didn’t let the king and queen know that the kisses and cuddles they gave to princess Boo, sometimes made princess Karlin feel like an old crow with feathers all ruffled and black as coal.
One night as Princess Karlin lay sleeping in her bed, an angel of dreams came to visit and softly said; Princess Karlin come and fly with me to see what lies within the king and queens head. So the princess and the angel of dreams floated up to the ceiling with the greatest of ease and then up the queens nose, it made the queen sneeze.
Once inside the queens head princess Karlin saw all the things that made her mom scream. She saw all the problems the queen had with a king, who to her, he seemed to want only to play, eat and sing.
Princess Karlin saw just how much the queen loved both princesses’ so very, very much, but was sad and unhappy because there was never enough time to give both princesses her loving touch. Then through a door inside the queens’ head, the princess and angel quickly sped. They went to a room filled with things that made the queen smile whenever she wept. There in the center atop a gold throne set a gold box all a glitter with diamonds and other more precious stones. The box was divided down the center into halves.
The name of Princess Karlin on side one Princess Boo’s name was on side two.
Side one was clear full of memories to bring her mom joy and told why the queen loved princess Karlin so much. There was the memory of how Karlin looked on the day she was born, with a head full of dark hair, the first child of the kingdom to be bor , on that cold New Years morn. There were copies and pictures of all that she’d done. The queen had stamped with love, each and every one.
The princess and the angel now flew back with pieces of her moms memories, to remind her how much she was loved. The angel helped Karlin tuck them safely into her heart in a magic gold sack. There was a piece of love to remind the princess, that in the queens eyes, she would always be special. (sometime in the future, the angel of dreams, would take princess Boo, to see all the treasures held in side two.)
Now out they flew, through the queens toes, ‘cause this time they didn’t want to tickle the queens nose. Then up through the eye of the king they did fly, past all he had seen and right into his head. The fell into a room full of things that all good kings dread, it was full of all the things the king wished he had said. There was a fear that the queen and the princesses too, wouldn’t know that he loved them in spite of what kings do. In there too were the fears that because he liked to play, eat and sing, the princesses just couldn’t love such a funny old king. Lucky for him there were coupled and hooked to the fears in his head were so many shiny sweet memories to lessen his dread. Memories that the princesses knew about all the things the old king could do. Then into another room the angel flew, let’s not forget the princess she went along too. Inside the room was a magnificent painting with colors so beautiful the whole room glowed. The title on the picture read simply, “the girl that I love”. The colors were moving and changing shape all the while, but right in the center sat Princess Karlin, the light was her smile. The angel took princess Karlin back to her bed without a whisper they left the kings head.
When the princess awoke, her journey was through, there was peace in her heart because she now knew
Both the king and the queen loved her too.
